Recycle Craft – Owl Creation

14 Sep 2022 | Inspirational Activity Ideas, Nursery and Early Years

We’re all looking for more ways to be eco-friendly and recycle items around the home. A good place to start especially when planning activities with your little ones is to create recycled crafts. Start building up a collection of items around the home which you can use for a whole host of crafts, from pieces of card and paper, to toilet roll tubes, cupcakes cases and cardboard. Plus once these items are made, they can be recycled once more.

Sheila at Rascals and Rainbows has come up with a brilliant craft perfect to do this autumn, and all made with pieces of recyclable materials! Give it a go and let us know how you get on…

What you’ll need:

  • Brown paper bag
  • Orange card
  • Black card
  • Yellow card
  • Yellow cupcake cases
  • Scissors
  • Glue stick
  • Pen

Step 1

Get a brown paper bag.

Step 2

Vertically cut a few inches off the sides of the bag (save these for later!).

Step 3

On a separate piece of orange card, cut out a square with rounded edges and draw some waves.

Step 4

Using some glue, stick the orange card in the middle of the brown paper bag.

Step 5

Using the vertical strips that were cut off before, fold these into fans and stick them next to the orange square.

Step 6

Take some black card and draw an upside-down triangle.

Step 7

Cut out your triangle and glue it to the top of your brown paper bag.

Step 8

On some yellow card, draw a smaller upside-down triangle, cut this out and stick it to the end of your black triangle.

Step 9

Using two recyclable yellow cupcake cases, stick these down into the middle of your black triangle.

And there you have it! A lovely woodland owl.

How cute does our little owl look? We’d love to see your version, if you’re inspired to make this, send us a photo of your finished craft.
