Upcycle Craft – Storage tins
Upcycling is a process in which you transform old items and give them a new lease of life! There are lots of products you can collect around the home or your early years’ settings which you can use to upcycle with your children for an arts and crafts activity or for you to create yourself and use as decoration or storage.
Here’s a really easy idea from Early Years educator, Gillian at My three Little Strawberries, who has turned tin cans into practical storage pots. Great for housing a number of items for your home or setting.
Here’s how to do it in three easy steps…
Step 1
Get some old tin cans, take off any labelling and give them a quick clean.
Step 2
Using a selection of paint colours, paint each tin a different colour of your choice. Paint them over a couple of times to make sure every part of the tin is covered.
Step 3
Once the paint has dried, fill your tins with whatever you like! They can be used to store stationery such as pens and pencils. Or why not use them as planters to bring a nice touch of decoration into your setting.
We love this DIY hack and you can easily do these simple steps or be as creative as you like, painting them to specific themes or colours to work in your room. How will you make use of your storage pots?
