Top Halloween foods to recreate
Halloween is nearly here and what better way to celebrate than with various Halloween bakes. We love nothing more than getting our bake on and have created some easy recipes that children will love. From skeleton and pumpkin gingerbread biscuits, ghost cookies to apple bobbing crumble. Discover our Halloween foods to recreate for any skill level! Pumpkin and skeleton gingerbread men
This Halloween bake is easy to recreate and can be decorated in whichever way pupils want to. These gingerbread men are a Halloween staple as you can turn them into anything from pumpkins, skeletons to zombies or vampires! This recipe is perfect for children to let their imaginations run wild with.
Have fun with icing whilst practising motor skills and follow this quick spooky recipe.
Ingredients
- 225g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
- A pinch of salt
- 2 tsp bicarbonate soda
- 1 heaped tsp of ground ginger
- ½ tsp cinnamon
- 50g unsalted butter
- 100g soft brown sugar
- 100g golden syrup
Add sweets such as jelly tots to decorate with.
Step one
Preheat oven to 190c and line a baking tray with baking parchment.
Step two
Sieve the flour, salt, bicarbonate soda, ginger and cinnamon into a large mixing bowl.
Step three
In a pan, heat up the butter, sugar and syrup until it dissolves. Leave the mixture to cool for a few minutes.
Step four
Mix the warm mixture with the dry ingredients to form a dough. Chill the doughy mixture in the fridge for about 30 minutes.
Step five
On a flat surface, lightly dusted with flour, roll out the dough to a quarter inch thickness.
Step six
Cut out the shapes that you have chosen (round for pumpkins and men for skeletons). Re-roll any off cuts and repeat.
Step seven
Place the gingerbread shapes onto the baking tray with enough space between them for spreading. Cook for 10-15 minutes then let them cool.
Step eight
Use icing to decorate the gingerbread shapes however the children please. Create all sorts of Halloween creatures and have fun bringing them to life. Top with any sweets of your choice to complete them and enjoy.
Spooky ghost cookies
Our friend @thewilsonsuk has created the perfect spooky ghost cookies that are easy for pupils to recreate. This is one of the Halloween bakes that will be incredibly enjoyable for children to make as it involves some messy icing to finish the ghosts off.
Here is how you can create this amazing bake with your class.
Ingredients
- 200g unsalted butter
- 200g golden caster sugar
- 400g plain flour, plus extra for dusting
- 2 large eggs
- A splash of vanilla extract
You can also add some chocolate chips or raisins to make yours a little different!
Step one
Heat oven to 200c/180c fan.
Step two
Put the butter in a bowl and beat until soft. Then add the sugar, eggs, vanilla and finally add the flour to make the dough. If the dough feels sticky add more flour.
Step three
Roll out the dough and cut the dough into your Halloween shapes! This can be any shape you want.
Step four
Transfer them onto baking parchment and bake for 7-10 minutes until golden.
Step five
Ice the biscuits however you like. Try using icing bags for finer details.

Apple bobbing crumble with a toffee twist
This is a perfect Halloween food to recreate for that cosy Halloween feeling. Get messy making crumble and go bobbing for apples to use with your class. Toffee apples are a Halloween staple so why not recreate this toffee apple crumble? Let children get creative to present their toffee apple crumble and carve apple out like pumpkins to place on top.

Ingredients
- 225g granulated sugar
- 30ml golden syrup
- 130g unsalted butter
- 900g apples (cooking or eating)
- 200g plain flour
- 100g caster sugar
Add some of your favourite biscuits to finish off the crumble.
Step one
Preheat the oven to 180c.
Step two
To make the toffee apples, pour 100ml of water and the granulated sugar into a saucepan. Slowly boil and reduce heat once the sugar has melted. Add the syrup and 30g of the butter and bring to boil, stirring regularly.
Step three
Bring to a simmer and add the apples to cook. Stir gently until the apples are soft. Place the mixture into an ovenproof dish
Step four
To create the crumble, rub the flour, 100g of butter, and the caster sugar together. Use a large bowl and keep rubbing until it turns into breadcrumbs.
Step five
Break your chosen biscuits, using a rolling pin and a food bag until fine. Add to the crumble mixture and stir.
Step six
Spoon the mixture on top of the apples evenly. Place in the oven to bake for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
Step seven
Serve hot with plenty of custard on top. To make the dish even more spooky add black food gel into the custard!
