Star of David Hanukkah Craft
As the winter season approaches, many educators and parents begin preparing for the festive traditions that help children explore diverse cultures and celebrations. One such celebration is Hanukkah, the Jewish Festival of Lights. Celebrating this eight-day festival offers a wonderful opportunity to introduce young children to Jewish culture, customs, and stories.
We’ve designed a creative and simple Star of David craft activity to bring the spirit of Hanukkah into your setting. This activity not only taps into children’s fine motor skills but also helps them engage with cultural symbols in a hands-on, meaningful way.
Follow the simple steps below.
What you’ll need:
- Craft sticks (6 per star)
- Blue paint
- Glitter
- Glue
- String or ribbon for hanging
- Glitter, gems, or other decorations
Step 1
Begin by having the children paint the six craft sticks with blue paint or markers. This will represent the blue and white colors traditionally associated with the Jewish flag and Hanukkah decorations.
Step 2
Once the sticks are dry, guide the children in creating two triangles by gluing three craft sticks together for each triangle.
Step 3
Place one triangle on top of the other, rotating one slightly so they overlap and create the iconic six-pointed star shape. Secure the triangles together with glue.
Step 4
Encourage children to decorate their stars with glitter, gems, or any other decorations that allow them to personalize their creation.
Step 5
Once the star is complete and dry, tie a string or ribbon to one point so it can be hung as part of your setting or home Hanukkah decorations.
Whether you’re a teacher looking for activity ideas or a parent hoping to bring cultural awareness into your home, this craft offers a simple and effective way to celebrate the Hanukkah.
