Chinese New Year Craft – Rabbit Lantern
Chinese New Year begins on the 22nd January and will be the Year of the Rabbit.
Our brand ambassador thecreativestrawberries shows us how to make a rabbit lantern with your little ones to get them involved in the festivities.
Follow the simple step-by-step below to create your very own Chinese New Year rabbit lantern!
What you’ll need:
- 6 paper plates
- 4 paper doilies
- Stapler
- String
- Glue stick
- Scissors
- Pink paint
- Black felt tip pen
- Wooden stick
- Tea light
- Decorations of your choice
Step 1
Cut the middle from five of the paper plates.
Step 2
Draw a rabbit face on one of the doilies.
Step 3
Glue the doilies onto the paper plates you have cut the middle from.
Step 4
Staple four of the paper plates together, to make a box shape. Make sure to keep the uncut plate for the base of the lantern.
Step 5
Now staple the uncut paper plate to the bottom as the base.
Step 6
Then staple the last paper plate you have cut with no doily on it to the top.
Step 7
Using the middle from one of the plates cut some rabbit ear shapes out and paint the middle.
Step 8
Glue these to the top of the plate with the rabbit face on it.
Step 9
Add any decorations of your choice.
Step 10
Cut four holes in the top plate and thread string through it and tie to the wooden string.
Step 11
Finally add in a battery operated tea light to see your rabbit illuminate.
