Earth Day Tuff Tray
Earth Day falls on the 22nd April and it’s a day to celebrate our planet but also raise awareness on the importance of protecting the natural resources of the Earth for present generations and those to come.
This fun Earth Day tuff tray from our brand ambassador Early Years Outdoor can be a useful teaching aid for your little ones. They’ll be able to explore and learn related vocabulary through a sensory experience.
Find out how to replicate this Earth Day tuff tray below.
What you’ll need:
Step 1
Draw a circle in the middle of the tuff tray for the earth, whilst discussing the shape of the earth as a ‘sphere’. Add the word ‘Earth’ using some nature letters.
Step 2
Using the green sand, begin to create your land sections. You could look at the globe/atlas to find out the different shapes of the countries/continents and have a go at making the shapes with your hands.
Step 3
Add the blue sand all around to represent the sea. At this point, we discussed the texture and feel of the sand on our hands and how this is different to the sea.
Step 4
Using animals and nature, place them around the earth for the children to investigate and explore. Add some nature onto the green sand for the land.
Once the activity is complete, children will love to explore freely and experiment with the sand and the animals to recreate their own.
