Diwali Activity: Sand Rangoli
Sand Rangoli
A Rangoli is a traditional, colourful pattern often placed near the entrance of houses to welcome guests. At Diwali, Hindus often create Rangoli to welcome goddess Lakshmi into their homes. This activity is so simple and only requires some coloured sand and a bit of creativity…
You will need:
- Coloured Sand
- Play Tray
Step 1:
Select the coloured sand you want to use, we recommend at least 5 different colours.
Step 2:
Pick one of your colours to be the centre of your Rangoli. Pour it into a circle shape in the middle of your play tray.
Step 3:
From here, start building up different colour rings. Take one colour at a time and use it to border the previous circle, making sure you have a good amount of sand in each ring.
Step 4:
You are now ready to start using your hands to swirl the sand rings together, creating beautiful patterns and creating your Rangoli!
Simple enough? We’d love to see the finished result! Once you and the little ones have completed the craft, take some photos, and tag us on Instagram or tweet us @hope_earlyyears. You can also share with us on Facebook at Hope Education UK.
